RABBIT RABBIT!
Does everyone know the story behind this?
It's an old superstition, apparently dating back to 1420 in England. For good luck in the coming month, as soon as you wake up on the morning of the first day of the month you say "Rabbit rabbit!"
Some people say it to everyone they greet that day!
Others make a game out of it. You have to beat the other person to saying it.
I worked at a Maine institution, The Goldenrod for a few summers between 2003 and 2006. Employees would rush to say it to you when they saw you out of the corner of their eye. Some would even place stuffed rabbits (not real of course) all over the place.
So, for good luck shout it out! And read more about the wacky tradition here!
RABBIT RABBIT Everyone!
