McQueen
Lee Alexander McQueen was a British designer and a force in the fashion industry. He's won countless awards, clothed everyone from Target shoppers to Celebrities to the First Lady of the United States.
It was announced earlier today that he took his own life by hanging himself, only days after his mothers passing.
His passing comes just days before London and New York fashion weeks were to begin.
Sad, sad, sad.
Suicide is not a way out. If you're going through a tough time and need someone to talk to know you're never alone.
Speak out.
Get help.
Here's just a sampling, via YouTube of just the tip of the iceberg that is his amazing talent and the permanent mark he has left on the fashion world.
Lady Gaga debuted her new single at his last show for Spring Summer 2010.
Look at the shoes!

Sad...
Natasha Richardson (wife of Liam Neeson) suffered a blow to the head this week while learning to ski on the beginner slopes of a mountain in Canada. The 45 year old actress herself laughed after falling, walked around, and went back to where she was staying. It wasn't until later that day when she started complaining of a severe headache that she received medical attention. Later slipping into a coma and being left "brain dead" she was flown to New York with her husband so friends and family could say their quick and unexpected goodbyes. She was taken off life support earlier thisafternoon.
Her husband released this statement today about the entirely too soon loss of the his Tony Award winning wife (Sally in Cabaret 1998) and mother of his sons:
"Liam Neeson, his sons, and the entire family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Natasha. They are profoundly grateful for the support, love and prayers of everyone, and ask for privacy during this very difficult time."
To read more on the accomplished actress and her familial ties to the stage and screen read more HERE at IMDB.com. Natasha was currently working on the Broadway revival of A Little Night Music with her mother.
Here she is performing "Maybe This Time" live in Cabaret in Studio 54, on Broadway.

Have you been paying attention?
I'm not sure if anyone noticed...
but this week the National Debt clock hit 11 Trillion.
11 Trillion.
Obama wants to cut it in half before his first term in office is up... Lets hope for the future of this country that it happens.
The national debt clock is located to the right on the first page of my blog... check it out. Look at how fast it grows!
Also... here's a graphic going back to right before Regan. Look at how high it gets when the first Bush is in office! Then Clinton brings it down to 18 Billion, it's lowest in decades, and then the next Bush... just check it out.

Beyonce Sucked.
I know... it's rare, but it happened.
Beyonce sucked and sucked HARD at the 81st Annual Academy Awards tonight. S U C K E D.
The director of Australia and Moulin Rouge put together a little song and dance number celebrating the musical movie and the "comeback" of musicals in film.
Well, it seems to me that Hugh Jackman was the only person actually singing. Beyonce was canned, and canned her performance, and sucked. Zach Effron sucked... as did his arm wart Vanessa Hudgens. And the two kids from Mamma Mia sucked.
Why put these people on TV to sing and dance... if they're NOT going to sing and dance. WE CAN SEE RIGHT THROUGH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
STOP ALLOWING PERFORMERS TO NOT DO THEIR JOB! Why/who is paying them to do that?! It was awful. I'm really upset that they couldn't hire someone who could actually do both things for all this work.
Shame... shame... shame.
PS
Congrats to Heath Ledger. Completely deserved.

Goodbye.
Last night marked Conan O'Brien's last night as the host of Late Night on NBC. Jimmy Fallon will be taking his place on March 2nd.
This was one of my favorite shows. I think the man is brilliant and a true dork. I love it.
Although I'll miss him coming to us from his tiny ass studio at 30 Rock... I think he's going to take LA over by storm and truly create another amazing version of Tonight Show.
He's got some big shoes to fill... but he's 6'4", how hard could it be. ;)
Conan takes over the tonight show on June 1st 2009. To take a peek at the show and how it's run check out this cool site: The Tonight Show Experience

Sad
This woman, Lee Redmond has pretty much made a living out of having extremely long nails that she hasn't cut since 1979.
Sadly Lee was in a car accident and was ejected from the SUV today and lost her nails. She was listed in critical condition, but stable. Apparently she is now ok, but has lost the nails.
(I heard that if you let your nails grow long enough they become more than just a fingernail and can actually have veins form in them. Anyone know if that's true?)
She told Ellen over two years ago that she was going to cut her nails in November of that year, but did not.
Perhaps the answer is in this video:

Really???
Sadly our boy Jason Mraz was up for three Grammys last night and didn't take home a single one.
COME ON!!! REALLY???
He is SO much more talented than half the people nominated. His most recent CD "We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things" is so amazing!
He should have AT LEAST walked away with Best Manufactured Album or something. Please.
Anyways... he's a super talent. The fact that he got nominated for three Grammy's is awesome. He's not going anywhere. I don't love him any less.

OH NO!!!
This is a photo of the Bowl-O-Rama back in the 50's. It's BEAUTIFUL!!!
This is what it looks like now. Like it's made of 1980's Legos. Sick.
The retro Bowl-O-Rama sign in Portsmouth New Hampshire is coming down!
Why is everything from my childhood creeping away! The iconic sign doesn't only bring back a style of an era, but also sticks out as a neat, funky, retro part of the fingerprint of Portsmouth. It's a sad day.
Apparently a newer fun sign is going up. Because the site was grandfathered (meaning the place was built during a time of different building codes and signage rules) they're allowed to put another "alternative" sign in, but I have no doubt it'll be one of these...
Flat, boring and a florescent eyesore. Tis a shame. Click here for an article from the Portsmouth Herald.
Perhaps someone will buy the sign and put it somewhere where it can still be enjoyed. Perhaps they'll place it in their new restaurant, perhaps The Friendly Toast will add it to their awesome collection. Who knows.
The Yolkens sign was considered a landmark, so when the restaurant was torn down they left it. It was supposed to go to a sign museum or just be preserved and kept as a working landmark, but it's still standing there years later in tattered black tarp. It's probably half rotted by now.
Are people even paying attention to these things?! They're landmarks. It can't be THAT expensive to fix it up and stick it in a museum or restaurant. Sad.
