ALBUM REVIEW
Body Talk Pt. 1
Yes! Another Robyn album to get lost to! I don't think I keep it much of a secret, I love this girl. I can remember wailing away to "Show Me Love" back in the 90's in the back of my mom's minivan with my brother and sister.
If you remember liking her then, you'll like her even more now.
Robyn's taken an great route with a mix of powerful lyrics, dance beats, alternative rock roughness and her cute little accent.
Body Talk Pt.1 is her newest album (which is ALMOST as good as her 2008 release: Robyn) to hit the shelves (a phrase that sadly doesn't really mean much anymore). It's like a fun punch in the face. I find it completely fresh and entertaining from beginning to end. From "Don't Fucking Tell Me What To Do" to her little Swede ballad "Jeg vet en dejlig rosa" it's a sickly sweet alternative pop rock dance trip. And yes, it's possible to be all those things, and hers is smartly so.
Her first single "Dancing On My Own" is doing fairly well it seems. Playing in clubs, bars and every so often on the radio here in NY. It's a great emotional shove and caters to those of us who, sadly know the feeling of being aggravated and alone near the one we love. Bam. I love it.
I think her next single should be, if it hasn't already been announced - I'm a little behind on things having just received my new computer - should be "Cry When You Get Older". I think it's got a good radio friendly beat and chorus to it. It also has a great backbone and could be remixed a million ways, always a plus nowadays with people only buying one track off an album on iTunes or Amazon.
If you like Body Talk Pt.1, be excited... because it's part of a 5 part series. This is just the first installment of a Robyn take over which, I'm sure will dominate our ears and lives for the next year or so. I don't mind. Not one bit. Her first single off of Pt.2 is apparently "Hang With Me," which appears on Pt.1 in acoustic form. It's great. The actual singles already leaked online.
Another reason to be excited? She's touring the Kelis. Kelis has recently released a new album which goes back to her alt. roots... you should forgive her for "Milkshake" and give her a new look. I guarantee you've already heard one of her new songs and I'll bet you like it.
Either way, the two of them together should be something else. Sadly all of their New York shows have sold out, but if you'd like to join me in the Craigslist quest for tickets, that's where I'll be the day of the show.
Watch and enjoy... (please note that she's singing live, and it sounds awesome... unlike most current popular musicians)
Finally back in the real world!
I've finally been brought back to the real world and have a computer sitting on my lap once again.
So! Back to work. Here we go.

NEW BEYONCE
Everyone's releasing great videos lately (except Xtina)!
Beyonce is FULL OUT in this new video.
Screw dance trios, this is where it's at. Haha.
All kidding aside, this song is pretty sick and the video is super cute.
She looks hot as a 50's pinup girl/housewife/tramp.
Work!
Oh, she's just being Miley...
I'm loving this new video! The director did a good job of getting good angles and making her look like a the woman she is NOT. Remember, she's still a teenager! She's working it though!
I'm not a HUGE fan of the song, she's got better. The video is awesome though.

This is so nifty!
Ok, so some genius had a lot of time on their hands and they put this amazing little web page together!
They figured out what the frequency of each planet would sound like based on its distance from the sun and the speed and distance each planet travels.
It's pretty cool. If I had a baby, I'd let it fall asleep to this.

Alice in Wonderland
It was filmed in 1903 and was recently restored.
It's obviously in very bad condition, but it's still really neat!

McQueen
Lee Alexander McQueen was a British designer and a force in the fashion industry. He's won countless awards, clothed everyone from Target shoppers to Celebrities to the First Lady of the United States.
It was announced earlier today that he took his own life by hanging himself, only days after his mothers passing.
His passing comes just days before London and New York fashion weeks were to begin.
Sad, sad, sad.
Suicide is not a way out. If you're going through a tough time and need someone to talk to know you're never alone.
Speak out.
Get help.
Here's just a sampling, via YouTube of just the tip of the iceberg that is his amazing talent and the permanent mark he has left on the fashion world.
Lady Gaga debuted her new single at his last show for Spring Summer 2010.
Look at the shoes!

AMAZING!
This commercial is amazing. Hands down.
In fact... it's so amazing I'm going to buy one tomorrow. It wasn't my favorite candy bar before, but it just might be now.
Ok, not really, but after the Betty White ads, and now this? It's pretty damn close.

I want these shoes!
Does anyone know where I can find these shoes? I need them in a 12 or 13. haha.
They're designed by a famous artist named Para. The Vans website reads:
"The artist known as Parra delivers his unique illustration stylings all the way from his native Holland, to hit up some exclusive Vans kicks like these Parra Eras. Known for his cutting edge design elements and forward-thinking use of color, Parra's skills are some of the most sought after in the world, and pair up nicely with our classic low top lace-up skate shoe."
I can't find them in my size ANYWHERE! haha
I've been hunting for months.
How awesome are they!
GaGa and Cyndi tell it like it is.
They're there to talk about the Viva Glam campaign with Mac Makeup that they're working with. Cyndi's been at it forever, but GaGa is just getting started with them.
It's a pretty good interview.
And I have to say... it is SO NICE to see artists really working for a cause. GaGa's only been around for two years or so and she's already working it out like someone who's been in the business for years. She knows she's got attention and instead of hawking some stupid shit she's talking about women and AIDS.
I love her.
And because she didn't hawk, I'll do it for her.
GaGa is selling t-shirts on her website for Haiti relief. Check those out here.
She's also selling some sick headphones with Beats called Heart Beats... they'd be a pretty special gift for a loved one on Valentines Day. Here they are. They come in a few different colors and actually consist of state of the art sound technology. They're comparable to Bose.
She's also got tickets to another leg of her US tour going on sale soon.
And don't forget to pick up the deluxe edition of The Fame called The Fame Monster. It has all 8 of her new songs on it plus the original The Fame album.
She was also cool enough to release The Fame Monster as its own CD just in case you already owned The Fame (other artists DON'T do this, they want you to have to re-buy everything, GaGa gets that all her fans have to work for their money) at $7.99. It's 8 tracks long and contains a little art photo booklet.
And I can't even begin to speak of all the amazing things Lauper is up to. Check out her official website CyndiLauper.com to see all the great stuff she's up to with Mac, True Colors, and more.

Hmm...
The Chinese State Circus appears in this YouTube video doing their rendition of Swan Lake.
It's THE singular most amazing dance I've ever seen in my life.
It also looks a lot like a trick on the eyes.
Do you think she's on a string? Or is that really possible?
You've got to watch the whole thing to see how amazing these two dancers are... or how well they hide the fly system.

Ugh... sing to me forever.
BUT IT WASN'T ENOUGH!
This young lady can SING! And is CUTE as a button! Someone should cast this girl in Wicked if she's not up to anything.
Her voice is so crisp and refreshing... and amazing.
Listen up... she's probably going to be on your iPod someday.

I'm with Coco
In slightly strange news...
Although I was on a blogging hiatus over the last few months I was constantly talking about the drama between Conan O'Brien and his employer of nearly 20 years NBC.
The television station totally screwed one of their best assets and let him go! Conan was smart though, and it cost the peacock dearly. He's reportedly walking away with over $30 MILLION and his staff is splitting something around $15 million. He's also said he would share some of his $30m with staff.
Conan was the new host of the historic Tonight Show for only SEVEN MONTHS! His contract was for three years, but never specified when the show would air... so when NBC canceled The Jay Leno Show (the former host of Tonight) they were planning on pushing the Tonight Show to tomorrow... at 12:05am and giving Jay a half hour show starting at 11:35, the time slot the Tonight Show has had for 60+ years.
Conan being the awesome guy that he is said he didn't want to ruin tradition and didn't want to be the guy that messed with the show, so he said he wouldn't move to 12:05 and NBC said their goodbyes.
LAME.
So...
Now that things are officially over with Conan and NBC (the Tonight Show with Conan is still airing until March first, but only in re-runs. Jay takes the show back on March 1st - I won't be watching) everyone thought they'd be going their separate ways.
WRONG!
In an awkward move NBC has picked up pilot by Conan's production company Conaco. It's a legal show bla, bla bla...
How awkward is that!? Looks like Conan's going to be hanging out with NBC in a different light for a bit longer.
I just hope that this doesn't mess up his options of going to another network with his talk show skills!!
That's my guy!
Yay!
In random Hollywood news, my favorite actor Tom Hanks was rated the #2 most reliable and trusted celebrity in the US!
James Earl Jones was number one, which is fine by me. He's a bit more seasoned, like an awesome grandfather. Tom will get there.
Others that made the list?
Here you go: Michael J. Fox, Will Smith, Bill Cosby, Denzel Washington, and the only girl Sally Field.
I agree with the whole list... except for Ron Howard.
Ron Howard has done some great work, I'll give him that... but he RUINED the Dan Brown films. They could have been so much better. The only good thing about them is Tommy boy. I wonder if it's because of him that Ron's on this list.
I kid, I kid... sorta.
First post from the future... talking about the past.
With all the talk about recent box office records being broken by the James Cameron hit Avatar, people have been keen to find out just where the movie actually stands in the history of the genre.
While the movie is poised to become the number one grossing movie of all time this week, beating out James Cameron's other massive hit Titanic (how cool must that be, to have that kind of credit?!) it lacks in something a bit more impressive... actual ticket sales!
Regardless of how much money the film makes, what any artist (director, actor, etc) really wants is his message/product to be experienced and understood by as many people as possible.
So, who exactly comes out on top of actual TICKET sales?
Well, The Hollywood Reporter's website THRFeed.com (which used to be a real magazine, you know... the kind made with paper but is now defunct - I believe) has compiled the actual list of the 20 films with the highest number of ticket sales. Avatar didn't make the list... however it impressively and comfortably sits at number 26.
The only thing these movies have over Avatar is time... I have no doubt it will climb a few notches up over the next few weeks, especially if they re-release the film like they did with Titanic.
So, here they are, I know you're dying to know!
Here's the Top 20 movies of all time ... by number of TICKETS sold:
1 "Gone With the Wind" (1939) 202,044,600
